SITES is a field research infrastructure which offers various types of research support. It was initiated by the Swedish Research Council where nine field stations across Sweden were united. SITES covers all climate zones and landscape types, including agricultural, forest, wetlands, inland waters, and mountain environments. At each location, there is a wide range of data available from many long-term monitoring programs. Several of these can be seen on a map in SITES-locator for overview and a short description.
Data from long-term monitoring activities provides material for either pre-study baseline work or for developing, for example, models or scenarios. SITES can also provide locations for research, field laboratories for experiments as well as field-based studies, and technical assistance. It therefore consist of all infrastructure for field base research and experiments to meet the needs of Swedish research teams.
In addition to the Swedish Research Council, SITES enables the collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Uppsala University, Stockholm University, the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat, and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, which also acts as coordinator.
Collaboration between the research stations in Lönnstorp, Asa, Skogaryd, Grimsö, Erken, Röbäcksdalen, Svartberget, Tarfala and Abisko allows SITES to offer new and unique opportunities for field-based research, so, find a SITES location for your research in this application.
